The Portage Fire Department has been designated as a "Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection Station" by the SafeKids Coalition.  Portage joins Ostemo Fire, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Bronson Pediatrics as the only certified inspection station in Kalamazoo County.  Each location has the inspection event once a month making it easy for a parent/guardian to have their car seat checked and/or installed.

Anyone who is looking to have a seat installed or checked should be referred to the contact point for that location.  Currently, Captain Steve Tanner, Captain Clay Hollister and Firefighter Kevin Hawkey are the certified car seat technicians for the fire department.  Together with members of the Portage Police Department, they will work to make sure the inspection station is staffed.  The Portage Fire Department is designated with the 2nd week of each month.
